Wise County/City of Norton Clerk of Court

Jack Kennedy, Clerk of Court Jack Kennedy serves as the Clerk of Court after having first been elected to the office in 1995 and subsequently re-elected in 1999, 2007 and 2015. The hallmark of his tenure has been the modernization of judicial administration through the digital information technology tools enabling on-premises and remote users to access public information, along with community outreach to improve the quality of life. His current term expires midnight, December 31, 2023.

The Wise County and Norton City Clerk of Court office is open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday at the Wise County Court House for walk-in service. Many of your questions may be answered by browsing the Clerk of Court web page regarding civil or criminal case status, real estate document information and GIS maps, case filing and land record fees, marriage license, concealed handgun permit applications, probate and estates, Notary Commissions, and U.S. Passport applications. The Clerk of Court office was first established in 1856 in Wise County and it has functioned continuously the past 150 years. Today, the employees include the Clerk of Court and ten deputies. An additional five part-time employees work on the indexing and scanning of legacy court files to better preserve and provide rapid on-premises digital access. There is also a college student internship program that has functioned the past decade.
